Battle of Hoth (2025)
Battle of Hoth is a board game published by Days of Wonder in 2025, created by Richard Borg and Adrien Martinot.
Inside the box, you’ll find a rulebook and a scenario book. The rulebook is clear and easy to follow, with simple rules, useful examples, and helpful pictures. About half of it focuses on explaining different units and terrain tiles. The scenario book adds several ready-to-play setups, giving players different ways to engage in the Battle of Hoth.
Box content
There are also two double-sided reference cards that summarize movement, combat, and unit features. The game board is double-sided as well. One side is for the standard game, while the other lets players combine two sets to recreate the full battle from The Empire Strikes Back.
Playing pieces
The game includes units from both sides of the conflict. The Rebel forces have infantry, turrets, and snowspeeders, while the Empire has infantry, probe droids, and the famous AT-ATs. The plastic miniatures look great, definitely adds to the overall appeal of the game.
It comes with custom dice and terrain tiles to help set up the battlefield. There are also two campaign options, allowing players to link scenarios together so that the outcome of one affects the next. This adds a lot to the gameplay.
The cards
There is one small detail that is not perfect. The cards are smaller than the Gamegenic Standard Inner Sleeves 64x89 mm that I normally use :( Annoying.
The Battle of Hoth is a great addition to both the Command & Colour series and the Star Wars genre—definitely worth checking out for fans of either.
Hoth is heating up again!
P.S. I plan to revisit the classic “Assault on Hoth: The Empire Strikes Back” from 1988 and see which game is better.
