Time to enter a design challenge, namely the 9-Card Nanogame Print and Play Design Contest over at BGG.

Timeline
Entry Deadline: March 16th, 2025 11:59 PM BGG Time (CST)
Contest Ready: April 15th, 2025 11:59 PM BGG Time (CST)
Voting Page Available: May 1st, 2025

Requirements
The goal is to design a solo or multiplayer/co-op or PvP game that fits these guidelines:

  • Rules: A4/Letter-sized PDF sheet(s)
  • Cards: A4/Letter-sized PDF with 9 cards (3x3), each 2.5” x 3.5”
  • Components: Up to 24 game pieces in total

Game Components
The game’s main feature is the use of 9 poker-sized cards. You can use both sides of the cards if needed. In addition to the cards, you can include up to 24 components like cubes, coins, paper clips, discs, squares, meeples, or dice. These components can vary in type, color, and shape, but the total must not exceed 24.

For Roll & Write games, you can write on the cards (but not the rulebook). If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even cut and fold the cards.

The stage is set for the competition! Now it’s time to choose a theme, develop mechanics, and bring your game to life.

Follow the design process here on the blog and on the BGG forum. The game, in its various stages, will be shared both here and on BGG.

This is going to be fun!
